Don’t tell me you’ve never seen it happen, because I know you have. Hopefully it didn’t happen to you.

God Love Those Olympic Divers

Ooo-la-la! Here come the Speedo’s; let the games begin. Diving swimwear is ultimately the tightest clothing one will ever wear. Routinely, swimmer’s suits are usually tighter than divers. No one wants to see the result of a diver bending over in too tight swim trunks. But they do have to be tight enough so as not to slip off upon impact. Hitting the water just wrong can be like hitting a wall. They are usually water repellent, to a point, to cut down on added extra weight.

Even Swimmers Have To Get In The Act Of Tiny Swimsuits

Olympic swimmers wear tiny swimwear for one reason and one reason only. The smaller suits allow them to move through the water faster because they are now streamlined and offer less friction. And you thought it was just because… they can!

Just a thought: if you play Wii Olympic Games, you may want to prepare yourself. I know I’m not ready to see Mario or Sonic in a Speedo.

Branson will be joining film maker James Cameron and maverick adventurer / businessman Patrick Lahey in a race to reach the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

This destination is considered to be the deadliest trench in the ocean and it’s over 36,000 feet deep. Some people have said that it’s even deeper than natural wonders like Mount Everest, more isolated than Antarctica and more desolate and extreme than Mars and Jupiter combined.

Why Are They Doing It?

This filmmaker and adventurer put his life on the line many times to shoot the footage for his iconic movie Titanic and have made countless dives to the depths of the ocean since. Mr. Cameron will no doubt have his camera ready to shoot footage of this never before seen environment for audiences to view sometime in the future.

When it comes to Richard Branson, anyone knows that this man regularly seeks out adventure. From his days sailing around the world in a hot air balloon with Steve Fossett to his hard work at making commercial space travel a reality for non-astronauts, Branson is taking on this new adventure because it’s in his blood.

As for Patrick Lahey he’s seen adventure too but the stakes are higher for him because, working with limited resources he’s managed to have a top notch sub built. If he wins the contest his company could gain global recognition and he could be a household name like James Cameron and Richard Branson for years to come.

Underwater sports can be so fun and rewarding, however it does take someone physically fit to do this. Scuba diving is a very strenuous sport, because you are first off holding this air tank and secondly, you are using your entire body to move.

Will Smoking Traditional Cigarettes Effect My Scuba Diving

That question is almost silly, because chances are you cannot run a mile without being very winded and coughing and gagging. Traditional cigarette smoking is very hard on the body. Your lungs are having to work double time twenty four seven when you smoke the harsh traditional cigarettes. You are also coughing a lot, you can’t scuba dive if you are having a hard time from not coughing. You can’t breath properly underwater, which means your chances of scuba diving are limited. Studies have shown traditional cigarette smoking increases many illness’s and major medical problems such as cancer, ulcers, and your overall health. Why would you do that to yourself? Most would say they are addicted to the nicotine. There is a very positive answer to all of this and you will be able to still scuba dive.

I Need To Smoke- What Can I Smoke?

The great news is you have plenty of options with the electronic cigarette. This cigarette is great. It has some really cool new styles to hold when you are smoking, like safecigs. You don’t have to hold the normal looking cigarette. You can bump it up a notch. Another cool new feature is having different flavors. You can taste a flavor rather than a nasty cigarette taste that leaves your mouth and breath smelling bad. That is a huge bonus. You are also able to control how much nicotine you intake, so if you are trying to stop smoking you can.

Enjoy scuba diving and checking out the awesome scenery.

Reading textbooks about diving is a great way to learn more about the sport and decide whether you want to get involved or whether you’d rather find a different kind of hobby. If you’re a little uncertain, you don’t even have to spend a lot of money to buy books. Just rent some textbooks on diving and compare textbook prices beforehand.

Rental Diving Textbooks are Available

It’s possible to rent textbooks on all sorts of things, and diving is one of them. You can consider focusing on diving as a hobby, or you may even want to learn how to make a career out of diving. Many people hunt treasure, some teach others to dive, and others work with aquariums and other aquatic locations. There are many different careers for divers, and there are many jobs where the ability to dive can be a benefit. Renting textbooks on diving can help you decide if one of those careers is for you.

Combine Your Rented Textbooks With Hands-On Lessons

As you’re taking lessons and learning to dive with an instructor, rent some textbooks on diving so you can learn even more about the mechanics of it. By doing so, you’ll be more likely to do a good job on your lessons and have more fun while you’re diving. You may also be safer, because knowledge really is important.

Renting textbooks is a relatively new thing to do, but it’s much better than spending hundreds of dollars on books that you might decide aren’t right for you and your interests. It’s better to rent first and be sure, so you aren’t wasting money. You may not need to buy books to get all of the information you need about diving or any other hobby.

It May Be a Little Harder Than it Looks

Scuba diving looks easy when you see it on television but the gear that you must wear is heavy and scuba diving itself is a demanding form of exercise. Granted you and your equipment grow lighter once you enter the water, but there is still a lot of physical demands that are being put on your body during scuba diving. Recently, someone I spoke to said that they had gone through scuba diving lessons and not only did they feel a great sense of accomplishment in now knowing how to do it but that in three days they had managed to lose 2 ½ pounds without even trying. Technically, according to a bmi calculator that is available online, a person weighing 135 pounds will burn more than 225 calories from a mere 30 minutes of scuba diving. The best part is, the fun that they will have doing it.

Swimming in General is Great Exercise

While doing laps in the nearest recreational pool can’t be beat for weight loss in water; it also can’t be beat when it comes to boredom. I can’t imagine anything more monotonous than going back and forth in straight line in a pool. At least with snorkeling you’ve got beautifully fluorescent tropical fish to look at and are burning calories at the same time. Scuba diving with its heavy equipment and physical demands may not be as relaxing as snorkeling but affords you far greater experiences in the deeper waters than you will normally be able to access by snorkeling. Either way you’re getting a good workout and having a boatload of fun and interesting experiences without even having to break a sweat.

Good luck breaking a sweat in the water by the way.

I’m not a scuba diver but I want to say that scuba masks with corrective lenses are a rarity. Never having done so I’m not completely sure about this next statement either but I’m going to go way out on a limb here and say that wearing glasses underneath the scuba mask is very nearly next to impossible. So how does a scuba diver with hideous vision go scuba diving safely?

Is This Water Murky Or Is It My Lousy Eyesight?

Seeing clearly under water while scuba diving is challenging enough as it is. The deeper you go the darker it gets; the more sand and muck you stir up the murkier it gets. Add to that less than perfect eyesight and you’ve got a recipe for an underwater disaster. Safety is a huge factor in scuba diving. When taking a class for scuba diving safety is not only mentioned but stressed over and over again. There’s a reason for this. It’s important! Bad eyesight under water isn’t safe.

If You’re Serious About Your Scuba Diving, Why Risk It?

If you are a serious scuba diver and doing it on a regular basis it would most likely pay for you to at least check into Lasik surgery. Discuss it with your physician and find out what possible risks or side effects might affect your vision and scuba diving future. As with scuba diving itself there are of course some risks.

There’s every chance that you’re going to want to be able to ensure the correct identification of that dark mass heading toward you through the water while you’re scuba diving on your next trip. I know it would be on my list of things to want to be sure about. Lasik surgery can help you see better under water as well as above. Get more information from Lasik Surgery Chicago.

Technology has taken many turns that we didn’t see coming, whether it be touch screens or wireless internet. One such advancement is the development of underwater mobile phones. It has been introduced for diver communication, and it is known as the Alpha UWCP-Underwater mobile phone, created by Ocean Reef.

Features of the Scuba Mobile Phone

The underwater phone is comprised of a speaker and a microphone that can be fitted into a full face mask. This is connected to a quick release cable of up to 50 meters that spools from a surface buoy. That buoy has a water resistant box containing the interface which can connect to your mobile phone via Bluetooth. This all functions on a 9 volt alkaline battery. Any mobile phone that supports voice failing and Bluetooth can work with the Alpha-UWCP.

Operating the Scuba Mobile Phone

The Alpha-UWCP makes it possible for communication between two divers or a diver to the surface, wherever cell phone service is available. To operate it, the diver first records voice dialing commands on his/her cell phone before hand while wearing the mask, so the phone can recognize the commands once underwater. Then the diver can press the PTT (push to talk) button and once the confirmation signal is heard, the diver says the name of the person he/she wishes to call. In the case of incoming calls, the ring will be heard through the face mask speaker and by pressing the PTT button, it can be answered. This is definitely not your grandma’s home phone!

Now a day, we can take our phones everywhere, so there is no need to worry about being alone in the case of an emergency, especially underwater. The phone system comes with many safety features as well, so you can focus on your dive.

Jewelry is designed to be worn with anything and to anywhere, just about anywhere that is. Some activities are less hospitable to jewelry than others, and diving is one of them. Some people are concerned about taking off their wedding bands, but if you look at all of the aspects of a dive that are potentially harmful to your meaningful piece of jewelry, then cons perhaps outweigh the pros of keeping it on.

Warm Salt-Water and Your Jewelry

Most high-quality jewelry, like danish silver is perfectly safe in any environment, even if it is submerged in salty or chlorinated water for long periods of time. But some metals are not. The salt and various other elements in the water can be very damaging to some jewelry, causing it to lose its sheen or even rust. Also, if the water is on the warmer side, it can cause jewelry, rings in particular, to expand. Plus, there is always the added risk of somehow losing your jewelry, and then the hopes of finding it at the bottom of the ocean are pretty slim.

The Creatures of the Sea and Your Jewelry

It is a frightening thought, but your sparkly jewelry can actually attract sea creatures, and not just the friendly kind. You are already aware before going on a dive that there will be creatures such as sharks and barracudas, and they shouldn’t be of danger to you, but if you are wearing attractive jewelry, then that is another story. Barracudas in particular feed off of shiny, silvery fish, so a shiny piece of jewelry can mislead them.

If your jewelry is particularly previous to you, then it is probably for the best to refrain from wearing it on a dive, for its sake and your own.
